5 Comics Not to Miss This Week

A second chance to begin a trip around the multiverse, an alternative trinity, a post-apocalyptic cataclysm, a new look at classic royalty, and a new wielder of the galaxy’s most powerful weapon. No, this isn’t the plot from the latest movie from The Asylum. We’ve gone through this week’s comic releases and determined 5 Comics Not to Miss This Week!

 X-Treme X-Men #1 (2nd printing)

It isn’t often we include a second printing on this list, but the fact the first went so quickly, we wouldn’t want you to miss out on the chance to get this interesting title. Without spoiling it too much, X-Treme X-Men is the return to the multiverse spanning storyline (as well as a continuation of the “Exalted” story arc from Astonishing X-men), complete with fantastical takes on some of our favorite characters. If titles like Exiles interest you, pick this one up, you won’t be disappointed.

Earth 2 #0

Earth 2 is already a hot topic around the halls here at WoTN, and this issue is certain to add more fuel to the fire.  featuring the “tragic origin of Earth 2’s greatest villain!” It is pretty safe to assume that most readers will be picking this one up instead to find out more about the Batman, Superman, and Wonder Woman of Earth 2.

Planet of The Apes: Cataclysm #1

This new mini by BOOM! Studios takes us back to the planet of the apes (SPOILER ALERT! It’s really Earth, in the far future!), but instead of focusing on ape/human relations like so many of the stories have done, Cataclysm is a story surrounding the apes being forced to contend with an outside threat like none they’ve seen before. This is definitely one you will need to pick up, if only to erase that horrible James Franco movie from your memories.

Damsels #1

This tale from Dynamite Publishing brings us a story of classic fairytale princesses in a brand new light. Cinderella, Sleeping Beauty, the Little Mermaid, and Snow White will all come together and take up arms to save their kingdoms from war. This one is not to be missed if you have ever thought that “happily ever after” was too good to be true!

Green Lantern #0

This is one of the most talked about titles of recent months. A new Green Lantern is chosen, but who is he exactly? An Arab-American from the Detroit area named Baz is now the bearer of the Green Lantern ring for sector 2814, and this is where we learn his origin. Early previews of this issue have gotten mixed reviews, but with Baz being a major player in DC’s upcoming Rise of the Third Army and Trinity Wars story arcs, this issue is one not to be missed.

About Mark Driscoll

When not ranting about the current state of his favorite comics or working on L33t, Mark spends a majority of his time renovating his newly purchased, 120 year old Victorian house. Badly. He is very bad at talking about himself in the third person, as he thinks it make him sound pretentious.
