The recent tragedy in Aurora, Colorado has affected anyone close to Batman: The Dark Knight Rises in rather profound ways. Chris Nolan, Joseph Gordon Levitt and many other have already offered condolences to the victims’ families. Time Warner pulled controversial trailers from Dark Knight Rises showings all over the country and considered pulling the movie entirely. For DC, delaying Batman Inc, #3 for a month might seem small in comparison, but it’s just as appropriate.
Some over at DC sense that some on the Internet might blame this delay on printing mistakes and errors. Trying to quash those rumors early, Batman Inc. artist Chris Burnham told his Twitter followers:
Batman Inc #3 is going to be delayed a month due to some grim imagery that would seem wholly inappropriate given the Aurora killings.
The book printed on time. I’m looking at a copy on my desk right now. This isn’t a scheduling excuse, we’re trying to do the right thing.
In the issue in question, someone is trying to kill Damien. Bruce goes undercover as Matches Malone to find out who wants Damien dead.
To be honest, this does not sound horrible. It sounds like a father wanting to protect his son anyway he could. But given how sensitive everyone is right now, DC is making the best move in trying to distance Batman and anything related to murder.
Batman Inc #3 will be delayed for at least a month. More on this story as it develops.
