It’s nearly a month away from release and Gearbox continues to reveal teasers about the highly anticipated Borderlands 2.
This is, I love Borderlands and I want to share it with someone, but they suck at first-person shooters. Can we make a skill tree that actually allows them to understand the game and to play the game? That’s what our attempt with the Best Friends Forever skill tree is.”
The fifth playable character, the Mechromancer, (catchy little pun for necromancer isn’t it) is a mechanical wizard. Her name hasn’t been released yet, but the Mechromancer is a robot-armed female character who calls upon a robot called, Deathtrap. Deathtrap despite looking like a claptrap from Hell is used primarily as a decoy drawing fire away from the mechromancer, so she can better terrorize Pandora foes with wickedly awesome mechanical-inspired wizardry.
However, the truly teasing talk around the Gearbox town is the Mechromancer’s new ability tree, “Best Friends Forever,” which allows the player to blindly shoot behind cover and still find ways to hit their desired targets.
Lead designer, John Hemmingway, in a Eurogamer interview said this about ‘BFF’ ability tree:
“This is ‘I love Borderlands and I want to share it with someone, but they suck at first-person shooters. Can we make a skill tree that actually allows them to understand the game and to play the game?’ That’s what our attempt with the Best Friends Forever skill tree is.”
The Mechromancer will be available as DLC approximately two months after the September 18th release of Borderlands 2. For those fans who pre-ordered the game will be lucky enough to begin their second trip through Pandora with the mechromancer and deathtrap already at their disposal.

Dude, my gf promised to try Borderlands 2 with me in an attempt to share in my love of console games. I read this to her and we were both smiling. Thanks for the good news.
