TV Guide has reported that Michael Emerson will give voice to the Joker in the upcoming Batman: The Dark Knight Returns Part 2. Emerson is currently starring in the CBS drama Person of Interest and previously starred in sci-fi/mystery television series Lost. He has previous experience with voice acting having provided voice work on G.I. Joe: Renegades and various Lost related projects.
Batman: The Dark Knight Returns Part 1 and 2 have strayed from the fan favorite voices. Generally, the fan clamor is for Kevin Conroy to voice Batman. The fan favorite for the Joker is Mark Hamill. Both of these actors came to own their roles on Batman: The Animated Series and then in Batman: Arkham Asylum and Batman: Arkham City video games released on multiple platforms in recent years. In Batman: The Dark Knight Returns Peter Weller, famous for his role as Robo-cop, will be providing the voice for the Joker’s nemesis.
Batman: The Dark Knight Returns Part 1 is scheduled for release on September 25th on Blu-ray, DVD, and digital download. Part 2 is set for release on an unspecified date in 2013.
