Robin Williams Coming Back to TV?

After 30 year of entertaining us in movies, Robin Williams may be returning to the small screen in a new sitcom. Williams is in talks with Emmy award-winning writer and producer David E. Kelley. Williams is an award-winning actor, having been nominated for over a hundred awards and winning more than half. He has performed in every genre you can think of but is at home in comedies. He has discovered our strange human ways on Mork & Mindy, molded young minds as Professor John Keating in Dead Poets Society and healed our souls in Patch Adams. He has also portrayed, in many films, the bumbling Dad willing to do anything for his family.

David E. Kelley has created and written for many well acclaimed shows, such as LA Law, Doogie Howser MDBoston Legal and Ally McBeal to name a few. The show is slated to be a father and daughter comedy set in the advertising workplace. It will be in single camera format which was very popular in the 70′s with shows like The Addams Family, The Munsters, and I Dream of Jeannie and has recently made a comeback with shows like Scrubs, It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia and The Office. Also like The Office, it will have a documentary style feel. Williams would star with Kelley writing and producing along with 20th Century Fox and Bill D’Elia. CBS will likely be the home for the new show.  Kelley has had the rare honor of having shows he created on all four major networks in the US. If Kelley does sign on, this will be his first half hour sitcom since Doogie Howser.

Hopefully everyone involved will be able to get all the i’s dotted and t’s crossed to get this show on the air. Robin Williams’ fans will give the show an instant audience of millions of people eager to see the comedian show off his sitcom chops. There’s no word yet on who may be playing his daughter on the series, who do you think would be a good match for the crazy energy and comedic genius of Williams?

About Shannon Chrismon

Shannon likes to think of herself as a Renaissance woman. She enjoys learning and will seek out new information if only for the purpose of knowing it. Curiosity surely hasn't killed this cat but it has definitely filled her head with volumes of random trivia and nerdy conversation starters. She enjoys literature of all types and at any given time could be found reading anything from the latest Dean Koontz novel, to this month's Deadpool, or even a collection of Richard Feynman lectures. She shares her little corner of the world with boyfriend Mike, lucky to have found someone who likes a girl with lot of nerd DNA.
