“Steins; Gate” Dub World Premiere at Otakon

What began as a visual novel for the Xbox 360 has now spiraled into drama cds, an internet radio show, manga, anime, and even a board game.

And with microwave time machines and a mad scientist, I have to imagine this sort of spiral was all part of some sort of time-traveling test-tube plan.

Funimation licensed Steins;Gate for English-speaking audiences, and the company is now ready to show fans the very first look at what is looking to be a promising English dub. With big names like J. Michael Tatum and Trina Nishimura doing major voice work for the show, fans of English dubs and of Steins;Gate alike are excited for this world premiere. If you are one of the thousands of lucky anime fans planning to attend Otakon later this month, you can check out dub on Saturday, July 28th! (And afterwards, there will be a Q&A session with the dub cast!) On top of that, Funimation has finally given us a full look at the English cast!

Unfamiliar with Steins;Gate? Check out Funimation’s synopsis of this trippy show.

The microwave is a time machine. Okarin proved it. The self-anointed mad scientist nuked bananas into some gelatinous version of the future. Or maybe it was the past. Doesn’t matter. No one thought he could do it, but he did it anyway. He sent text messages through time to people he knew. To his friends. Some of them female. Pretty. He should have been more careful. He should have stopped. Tampering with the time-space continuum attracts unwelcome attention. Clandestine organizations of nefarious origins take notice. SERN. Always watching. Okarin knows; he can feel their eyes. That’s why he started the top secret Future Gadget Lab. To stop them. You should join. We get to wear lab coats, and it’s dangerous. Danger is exciting because it’s deadly. The microwave is a time machine.

And if you just want a little taste, here’s the dub’s trailer! Did you enjoy Steins;Gate? Are you looking forward to the dub? Will you be checking out the dub premiers at Otakon? Let us know in the comments! (Source: Funimation)
