It’s been a two-movie-weekend for me, having seen The Cabin in the Woods at midnight Friday and The Raid: Redemption today. I have reviewed The Raid here, so feel free to check that out as well. In the mean time, here is a rundown of the trailers before the movie, at least in my theater.
They are in order of my favorite to least. (Info from IMDB, video from YouTube)
The Host. Directed by Andrew Niccol, staring Saoirse Ronan, Diane Kruger and Jake Abel.
Based on a series by Twilight author, Stephanie Meyer, The Host has an impressive trailer. I am not a fan of the author’s previous work or the subsequent movies, so I am skeptical about the final product, but this trailer was a perfect teaser.
Prometheus (a new trailer, one I had not seen before). Directed by Ridley Scott, staring Noomi Rapace, Charlize Theron and Patrick Wilson along with plenty of others. A team of explorers discover a clue to the origins of mankind on Earth, leading them on a journey to the darkest corners of the universe. There, they must fight a terrifying battle to save the future of the human race. Release date: June 8th, 2012
Widely regarded as one of the most anticipated movies of the year, these trailers are certainly working to build excitement. Michael Fassbender is rapidly becoming one of my favorite actors, and he is the most compelling thing about this particular trailer for the film.
Battleship. Directed by Peter Berg, starring Alexander Skarsgard, Liam Neeson and Brooklyn Decker. Release date: May 18th, 2012. A fleet of ships is forced to do battle with an armada of unknown origins in order to discover and thwart their destructive goals.
I know that any movie that begins its trailer with, “From the same Hasbro company that brought you Transformers” (in the theater, not in the YouTube version) and has a role for Rhianna should not even make my “want to see” list, but I’ll be damned if this doesn’t look…well, kind of good. Maybe it’s the Neeson/Skarsgard combo. I am a sucker for tall men, after all.
Finally, they showed a trailer for Chernobyl Diaries, but I already covered that in Before the Movie: The Cabin in the Woods, so feel free to check it out there.
All in all, a satisfying trailer experience. Bonus: I didn’t have to sit through another preview of The Dictator. Score!
