Pacific Rim Trailer Review

Large robot knelt on the coastline, Pacific Rim across the bottom

“To fight monsters, we created monsters”

The trailer for Pacific Rim has began to resurface on social media sites spreading excitement globally for Guillermo del Toro’s upcoming film. It is due to be released in July 2013 making it a perfect summer film to see with friends. Without even looking at the trailer I can already understand the excitement. Guillermo del Toro has been involved in various films, such as Pan’s Labyrinth, Hellboy, and The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey. This man is a genius in the filmmaking world and an artist in his own right.

The trailer for the film finalized my decision to ask a few friends to watch it with me when the movie is released this summer. Not that us British really have a summer. A voice-over assist by Charlie Hunnam, who has previously been in Children of Men and is in the TV series Sons of Anarchy, explains the situation that a portal between dimensions is deep within the Pacific Ocean and aliens have begun to surface. Images of gigantic alien skeletons on aircraft carriers and chaotic scenes of an exceptionally large alien destroying a bridge build up suspense and intrigue. These aliens had apparently “counted on the humans to hide, to give up, to fail.” Already I’m fidgeting eagerly in my seat.Large skeleton of an alien covering the deck of an aircraft carrier

Then the biggest, most bad-ass robot with human pilots are shown being released into the ocean to fight the aliens. This movie intends to be another epic showdown of humans vs aliens where the desire to survive can throw the war in mankind’s favour. With Idris Elba, Ron Perlman and Charlie Hunnan as part of the cast, Guillermo del Toro, Travis Beacham, and Drew Pierce as writers, and Ramin Djawadi, composer for Game of Thrones, it only adds to the potential greatness of the film.

I will not repeat the obscene language of joy that I initially said when I saw the trailer, but I can certainly say I’ll be making sure to keep July a relatively free month so I can watch this film.

New Promo Poster Reveals a Giant Robot From ‘Pacific Rim’

On July 7, ScienceFiction.com posted the latest Comic-Con promo poster for next year’s robot-on-robot action film Pacific Rim, and this new image features, you guessed it, an image of a giant robot.

Take a peek!

The movie is about humans who pilot large robots in order to fight off alien invaders. It’s directed by Guillermo del Toro and stars Idris Elba, Ron Perlman, and Charlie Hunnam… and I’ve got to tell my sister, because she’s in LUUURRVE with Idris Elba. ☺

But anyhoo…

Since this is a Comic-Con-specific poster, and since the movie will have its own panel there, it’s to be expected that del Toro and company will bring some nice footage for fans.

Next year, those Transformers are going to have to watch their backs, because there’s a new band of ginormous automatons nipping at their heels at the box office.
