David S. Goyer Dishes on Batman/Superman

Batman/Superman

David S. Goyer has one of the most fun, and stressful, jobs right now as he pens the screenplay for the highly anticipated Batman/Superman blockbuster, which is set to release in July 2015. In a video on Yahoo!, Goyer admits that the film is “a bit further along…” than we currently know. He also explains how he does not allow the fans to influence his writing, saying that he “can’t hold himself back…you can’t stop being creative…you have to write the story you want to write and hope the fans like it.”

Goyer isn’t known as being one of the elite screenwriters of our day, in fact there were many complaints about plot holes in last summer’s Man of Steel. So, this may trouble some fans, who have a concrete expectation of how the events of the first meeting between the two most famous superheroes should unfold on the big screen, including myself. But I do like how confident he is in his writing abilities and how he believes that he can put a great representation of the characters in the movie; that’s definitely a recipe for success. Also, DC and Warner Bros. definitely have a five, or so, year plan when it comes to the DC Cinematic Universe and although Man of Steel had it’s problems, it was overall a very solid movie. Given the weight of the Batman/Superman movie, though, I think it would behoove Warner Bros. and DC to allow Ben Affleck to help write some of the script, especially Batman’s scenes.

The public obviously has doubts  as to whether Affleck can pull of the Caped Crusader, but he is definitely a talented actor and his screenplay far outshines his acting talents. If Affleck is allowed to write his own material and really become the man that is Batman and Bruce Wayne, then I think we will see a stellar performance from the man. Goyer did say that they were further along with the movie than most people think, although I think that many figured that considering it was set to release just two years after Man of Steel, so we don’t know how much of the script has already been written.

At the end of the video, when asked who ultimately win in battle, Batman or Superman, Goyer says that most hardcore fans would say Batman because he is the ultimate strategist, but he believes Superman could easily defeat the Dark Knight.

Meme of the Week

The two greatest fictional detectives ever. Batman and Sherlock Holmes. It’s clear who would win in a fight, but who do you reckon is the better detective?

Could Sherlock really figure out Batman’s secret identity that quickly?

Leaked Star Trek 2 On Set Footage

Earlier this week, some images leaked from the set of Star Trek 2, a film that has been pushed back multiple times but has finally started filming.

It seems like some of the crew just can’t help but release some extra goodies for us fans, as now a video has emerged of Spock and the unknown bad guy having a good tear up.

It was widely rumored that Benedict Cumberbatch, the star of the recent Sherlock TV series and up-coming Hobbit, would be playing a villain but was never confirmed by the studio or JJ. Abrams.

This video pretty much proves it though, as he knocks seven bells out of Spock, played by Zachary Quinto. As Benedict isn’t in a well known costume, it’s still a little unclear to which villain he will be playing. If you look closely however, the black shirt underneath has a Starfleet insignia, similar to the one Chris Pine wore for most of the first film.  Only time will tell.

The set doesn’t look all that much, with most of it being green screen, but as the commentator of the video says, it’s likely they will be up high somewhere, possibly a scene slightly similar to the first film where they fight on the exterior of the drill.

I would like to apologies in advance for how annoying the voice over is, but this seems to be the only version of footage out there, but he is SUPER annoying.

Star Trek 2 will open on 13 May in the US and 17 May in the UK.
