Booth and Carrey in talks for Kick Ass 2

Casting continues for Kick Ass 2 with a particular big name actor being sought for a pivotal role.  Writer and director Jeff Wadlow is rumored to be after Jim Carrey to play the role of Colonel Stars in the film.  While supposedly only a cameo part, Colonel Stars brings together the group of misfit heroes to battle the mob and Red Mist  played by Christopher Mintz-Plasse.

Actress Lindy Booth is also in talks to star as Night Bitch.  Booth has worked with Jeff Wadlow in the past on Cry_Wolf.

 

Night Bitch is one of the new heroes — none of which has any actual powers — inspired by antics of Kick-Ass and joins a team called Justice Forever. They quickly get in over their heads when an organized crime group they’re antagonizing wants payback.

Along with returning cast Aaron Johnson, Chloe Moretz and Christopher Mintz-Plasse, new cast members will include Donald Faison, Morris Chestnut, Robert Emms and John Leguizamo.  Kick Ass 2: Balls to the Wall is due to start shooting next month in Toronto.

The first film, directed by Matthew Vaughn was labeled by some critics as “morally reprehensible,” but was a hit, pulling in over $96 million at the box office.  Kick Ass was based on the  2008 comic series of the same name by Mark Millar and John Romita, Jr.

Very Cool Hit Girl Statue!

Now, this would usually come under the header of ‘Nerd Porn,’ but I was very aware of the fact that the statue was of an 11 year old girl and the title didn’t seem appropriate. However, this is massively cool!

From the feature film based on Mark Millar and John Romita Jr.’s Kick-Ass, Hit-Girl is a lethal martial artist and weapons expert; she has been trained to fight crime practically since her childhood.   In the film adaptation, Mindy is played by Chloe Moretz, for which this statue is modelled after.  Standing 9 ½ inches tall to the tip of her gun and measuring 4.5″ W x 4.5″ D, Hit-Girl has been sculpted and painted in meticulous detail by Joy & Tom Studios.  The Hit-Girl School Girl Statue is being offered for an incredibly introductory price of only $279.99 this September, only from Dynamic Forces!!!  Dynamic Forces has offered many other sold-out statues to great acclaim such as the Army of Darkness Statue – Inspired by J. This announcement falls nicely with the release of the pint sized assassin’s own comic, Hit Girl, also by the creative team of Mark Millar and John Romita Jr. and with the announcement in this month’s Clint Magazine that the fantastic Chloe Moretz will be reprising the roll of Hit Girl in Kick-Ass 2, due to start filming this year for an August 2013 release. Also returning to their roles in the follow-up to the 2010 hit are Aaron Johnson (Kick-Ass), Christopher Mintze-Plasse (Mother F#@ker) and Lyndsy Fonseca (Katie Deauxma) exciting stuff.

Avengers vs. X-Men # 4 Press Release

Avengers vs. X-Men # 4 is here and not a moment too soon. It’s a good thing that this title releases like it does or I would be having some major withdrawal symptoms. I can’t say enough good things about this series, however I do have one negative thing to say to Marvel, and that is: please increase the quantity in your printings because these sell out very fast! I had no trouble getting the first issue but I guess word of mouth spread like wildfire because it’s been difficult to come by ever since. Guess this is partially my fault because I keep forgetting to tell my local comic shop to set these aside for me.

Avengers vs. X-Men #3 press release

Ok my fellow nerds and nerdettes, are you ready to rumble? I know two gentlemen that are – it’s vibranium against adamantium in Avengers vs. X-Men issue # 3 as Captain America squares off against Wolverine. Both of these guys have a whole lot of fights under their belt, many of those fights were wins of course.  However, both of these gentlemen have also had a fair share of defeats be it few and far between. It should definitely be an interesting fight. I know who I am putting my money on, do you?

Ok, I am so impressed with the way Marvel is handling this whole story with a lot of suspense and action. Marvel never ceases to impress me, I’ve been a big fan of these guys for over 25 years and they have rarely let me down. If you feel the same way and have not picked up any of these Avengers vs. X-Men titles then I suggest that you catch up because this series will go down in comic book history.

World Record Signing

Taking place this very second, superstar Marvel artist John Romita Jr. is in the middle of a world record attempt for the most signings in 48hrs.

The attempt started at 3.00pm on Friday, May 4th, and will run until Sunday, May 6th.  This is the second time the artist has attempted the record.  The first attempt, in 2002, saw proceeds go to the Heroes for Jordan charity. For this new attempt, Romita will join forces with Candlelighters Childhood Cancer Foundation of Nevada, and with a little help from Marvel Comics, will attempt to break the record and the amount raised.

If you are in the vicinity of the Hard Rock Café Las Vegas, then pop along and show your support.

Press Release: Avengers VS X-Men Launch Parties

Avengers VS X-Men is a ‘highly anticipated’ event and to drum up even more interest, Marvel are hosting a ‘record breaking’ number of launch parties across the world. Although if you are anywhere other than America, don’t expect to get the chance to meet anyone.

Over 1,100 comic stores will host a midnight party for the release of the first issue on April 3rd. Even DC didn’t go that overboard when they relaunched with The New 52, but being Marvel they feel the need to go a tad overboard.

All of the shops were asked whose side they supported and based on what your shop said, you’ll be able to pickup  exclusive Avengers VS X-Men giveaways including themed posters, buttons, variants and lithographs to name a few.

There will also be the opportunity of a blank front cover, allowing fans to add their favorite heroes to the line up, or if you can make it to one of the guest appearances, grab a signature or sketch.

In a press release David Gabriel, SVP of sales at Marvel said: “Avengers VS X-Men is getting the largest mainstream marketing push we’ve ever done.

“With these special launch parties that have the most participants than any we’ve ever done – we want to make sure that this event is the most successful one for us, and retailers alike. When fans see all the cool things we have planned – they’ll definitely be back week in and week out for their Avengers VS. X-Men fix.”

If you want to catch any of the creators at certain launch parties then John Romita Jr, Adam Kubert, Axel Alonso, Tom Brevoort & Nick Lowe will be at Midtown Comics in New York; Jason Aaron will be at Elite Comics in Overland Park and Ed Brubaker will be at Meltdown Comics in Los Angeles.

With so many parties taking place, it really will be hard to miss out on the ‘most anticipated comic event of the century’.

A First Look At Marvel’s “Avengers Vs X-Men”

Marvel were kind enough to send us over a first look at their upcoming mega comic crossover event, Avengers vs X-Men! I don’t think I’ve been this amped for Marvel event before, the two biggest hero factions in the Marvel Universe going toe to toe? With only one of them coming out on top? This will be a must read for ALL fans of The Avengers and X-Men. Heck, Marvel fans in general!

This is going to be awesome, the creative team behind it is immense, so many of my favourite writers on this title! The team consists of Brian Michael Bendis, Jason Aaron, Matt Fraction, Jonathan Hickman, Ed Brubaker, John Romita Jr., Adam Kubert and Olivier Coipel… You can pick your jaw up off the floor now!
