Personally I am glad that we’ve gotten away with every big genre movie needing its own separate soundtrack with songs inspired by (but often not in) the movie. To me it seemed it was merely a way to cash in just a little more on the hopeful success of the movie and give some artists a chance to have a song or two appear on the album (or CD for those not old enough to remember vinyl albums). At the same time though, I am a little nostalgic for some of those great songs that accompanied the movies and still remind us, fondly of those films. So to pay homage to the great comic book movies of the past, here is Word of the Nerd‘s top 10 list of the best of those songs.
10. Flash – Queen (Flash Gordon – 1980)
9. Bring Me To Life – Evanescence (Daredevil – 2003)
8. Can You Read My Mind – Maureen McGovern (Superman – 1978)
7. The Touch – Stan Bush (Transformers – 1986)
6. Hold Me, Thrill Me, Kiss Me, Kill Me – U2 (Batman Forever – 1995)
5. Hero – Nickleback (Spider-Man – 2002)
4. What I’ve Done – Linkin Park (Transformers – 2007)
3. Men In Black – Will Smith (Men In Black – 1997)
2. Kiss From A Rose – Seal (Batman Forever – 1995)
1. Batdance – Prince (Batman – 1989)
I find it a little ironic that three of the ten songs on our list are from Batman movies…go figure.
