These days, it’s hard to escape the immense success of The Walking Dead. What with the multiple Emmy nominations
for the hit television series, (Series Three will be smashing onto our screens this October) and the comic book series going from strength to strength since its inception back in 2003, garnering international acclaim, including a highly-sought after Eisner Award for Best Continuing Series. As well as this, issue #100 became the best-selling comic in fifteen years, when it sold 380,000 copies in July, and went back for more reprints. So it is perhaps unsurprising that many issues of this killer series are being reprinted!
The popularity of the TV series has done wonders for the comic book series, prompting Image to reprint each issue in a ‘Walking Dead Weekly’ style, with each issue being reprinted every week as of 2010. Due to the success of issue #100, which featured eight alternate covers from the talents of Charlie Adlard, Marc Silvestri, Frank Quitely, Todd Macfarlane, Sean Phillips, Bryan Hitch, and Ryan Ottley, issues #97-99 will also be getting a reprint, with covers that combine to create a large, landscape image which will feature the newest villain Negan, and his infamous baseball bat, Lucille, who have been key players in the series-changing story arc, aptly named “Something To Fear.”
Issues #97, 98 and 99 of Robert Kirkman’s zombie juggernaut, published by Image Comics, have sold out, however, the reprints of The Walking Dead #97-99 are scheduled to be in stores on August 22 and are available for pre-order.
So, what do you think to the success of The Walking Dead? Will you be picking up the reprint variant covers? Does Negan terrify you as much as he does me? Let us know in the comments section below!
