Time To Wedding Level Up

Far too many times during my quest to pull off my own nerd inspired wedding I found some very over the top themes alongside some very subtly inspired ideas to add that hint of mischief.  I think the problem is couples feel that weddings should be these big over the top elaborate affairs that break the bank when in truth they can be very elegant and budget friendly.  When it comes to weddings less is truly more and having just planned mine in 21 very short days, those words can be a mantra to keep tempers and budgets in check.

Granted it is your day and the bottom line is the Bride and Groom, both of you, not just the Bride, need to be happy with the day.  It’s your day and it needs to be special but we all know that sometimes family can step in and have more say than you’d like, especially when someone else is footing the bill for the affair.  So let’s look at some very subtle and inspired nerd wedding ideas to add that touch of whimsy to your special day.  Who knows these little touches could make every happy, including your overbearing mother.

super mario brothers fire flowers bride and bridesmaid bouquets

Gamer girls can add some fun to their bouquet and create something that can last a lifetime.  Real flowers can wilt unless you pay to have them preserved and many brides have looked to other methods including fabrics, metal, wood, and vintage brooches.  Crafty brides, why not make yourself a lovely bouquet of Super Mario Brother Fire Flowers for you and your bridesmaids?  Each one lovingly crafted and sure to bring joy and memories year after year.

Of course, your nerdy guy can’t be forgotten either.  Why limit him to just flowers for his boutonniere?  Get him something handcrafted and uniquely original, just like him.  Each boutonniere is made from a variety of materials and come in a bunch of styles allowing you to create something perfect and truly inspired.

Of course the entire wedding party can get in on the nerdy action.  Underneath all those stylish suits hides the true identity of the groomsmen.  Perhaps your wedding’s own Justice League of Groomsmen.  Let the ladies show your super side men!

Book owls can’t be forgotten either.  If your wedding is going to be very traditional and you want to sneak in small themes to show your nerdy side, why not geek up your garter belt?  Stylish, sexy, and oh so sneaky.  Now you can see which future husband will be the perfect Seeker if he can catch this little Snitch.

Cake toppers are probably one of the most creative pieces at any wedding.  Couples can have unique creations cast in their likeness allowing for a multitude of possibilities.  We’ve seen it all from Doctor Who, Star Trek, Stargate, The Walking Dead, Portal, and everything in between.  Personally I wish I had found this Army of Darkness cake topper during our planning.  Nothing says love like saving your lady from the forces of evil with a chainsaw.  Shop smart people, shop S-Mart.

Of course you can always have your wedding cake and cake topper as part of the overall design for the cake.  That way you can cross two things of your wedding list at once, cake and topper.  This idea is simply genius as well as elegant.  The design is subtle and simple but still lovely since the layers are slightly off-balance.  If the cake is truly a lie does that mean guests can have their cake and eat it too?

Most Brides now-a-days tend to get comfortable during the reception.  Opting for cocktail dresses or other comfortable clothes instead of wearing their dress all night.  For brides who want to get their causal on but still make it a point to remind people who got married, why not try this lovely print t-shirt for your party?  Bridezillas have nothing on Bridethulhu.

Couples could get a geeky surprise as well.  Family and friends can get creative and nerdy for the geeky couple.  This lucky couple was thrilled to have The Knights of Ni skit performed at their wedding.  Now that’s what I call getting everyone in on the nerd fun.  Ni!

Maybe you want your nerd side to be so subtle and so secretive that it’s just between you both.  A little geeky homage to some small piece of nerdom that makes your day even more special.  My husband and I did just that.  We got married on October 21, 2012 for two reasons.  One, when you write the date out 10-21-12, the last two numbers give a subtle homage to the band RUSH, while the second reason allows us to have a Back To The Future themed anniversary in 3 years.  Who knows maybe we’ll even get Christopher Lloyd to renew our vows for us.
