When Cable turned the New Mutants into the X-Force 20 years ago, he wanted a team of mutants that was more proactive than Xavier’s team. While the X-Men preferred nonviolent solutions, X-Force was more proactive and openly attacked their opponents.
When Cyclops reformed the team in 2008, he wanted a covert ops team that operated on the sly to take care of threats to Mutantkind in a discrete and permanent way. Being on the team at the time was quite brutal, with 18 members dying over the course of the series, three of whom long time supporting characters.
In Marvel NOW, Psylocke has taken over the team. Still maintaining Cyclops’ philosophy of discretely taking care of threats to the world, she expanded the mission to all threats. The team removes the threats in the most violent way possible.
But drama cannot exist without complications and in this case, it comes in the form of the time traveling mutant known as Bishop. His mission is to stop the Uncanny X-Force by any means necessary.
Uncanny X-Force launches under the Marvel NOW banner in January 2013.

About Joseph Furguson
This child of the 80s does not look upon it as some gold age where everything is better. He is well aware that the filter of time causes the best stuff to rise to the top. Every era has terrible and awesome things, but most are downright mediocre. He loves to highlight the forgotten good and the deserving bad items of all generations.
