Word of the Nerd Book Club

Reading is a joy in and of itself, you will never hear me say different. However, shared reading is a joy amplified. Whether you are into reading for the intellectual activity or the emotional connection there is nothing quite like having another reader to bounce your thoughts off of during and after the reading process. In my humble opinion, this is the power of book clubs, and with the right group of people, “power” is not a word to be used lightly.

At Word of the Nerd, the team behind the scenes is diverse, knowledgeable and, if you can’t already tell from their writing, a blast to chat with. I can only begin to imagine what kind of audience this reflects. As we have had a few snippets to hear from you via comments, polls, contests and social media interactions, we are just starting to get a sense of who you are. However, it is time we turn those snippets into real connections! It’s time to reveal who you are and what you are all thinking.

Nerds and nerdettes, it is time for YOU to join us for our monthly Word of the Nerd Book Club!

Here’s how it’s going to work. Each month, as a community, we’re going to read a book that reflects our nerd loves. Maybe it will be the book that inspired a movie we’re all waiting for, maybe it will be a must-read graphic novel that we simply have to commiserate over, maybe we will look to one of the nerd masters, a writer of classics, an author who created the very nerd-worlds our imaginations can’t seem to escape!

Whatever the book choice of the month, it will be announced in the first week of each month, and you’ll be given all month to read it. Then keep your eyes tuned to Word of the Nerd for weekly check-ins, thinking points and questions raised during the reading. By month’s end, you should be armed and ready with opinions, questions, comments and let the discussions go wild!

How Does That Work?

While we, at Word of the Nerd, could definitely engage with you in a discussion via comments on the site, we also want the WotN community to engage with each other! So let’s start off with the two big guns in Social Media connection: Facebook and Twitter. In the fourth week of each month, we will pick a day to be “Official Discussion Day” on the Word of the Nerd Facebook Page and on Twitter using the hashtag #WOTNBC. You decide which forum is best for you, and jump in on the conversation!

In case you are saving all your reading time for the “real” books, and you are looking for the Cliffs Notes version of how this is going to work, here is the Word of the Nerd Book Club Month-At-A-Glance:

Week 1: The book of the month will be revealed on the Word of the Nerd website.

Weeks 2-3: Follow up posts on Word of the Nerd website.

Week 4: Official Discussion Day takes place on WotN Facebook page and Twitter (via #WOTNBC).
